CIRCA 1640, ALMOST CERTAINLY BRESCIAN

With sighted two-stage barrel (probably shortened) struck with a mark on the octagonal breech, plain tang, large flat lock struck on the inside with a mark, apparently MK above a rearing horse, within a shield, and with chiselled crescentic wheel-retaining bracket, sliding pan-cover, and chiselled cock, figured walnut full stock (repaired and filled, fore-end tip replaced) inlaid with small pierced and engraved stellate steel panels, steel trigger-guard decorated with punched scrollwork, baluster trigger, iron saddle-ring, and later iron-tipped ramrod
