With two-stage smooth-bore barrel, polygonal then round, the muzzle with reinforcing ring, and the rear of the breech with a grooved ramp, pointed iron tang, flat bevelled lock retained by two side-nails (one replaced), with internal steel-spring and dog catch behind the cock, the plate stamped with maker's initials E.L.B. (?), fruitwood full stock (cracked and repaired), iron mounts including trigger-guard of triangular section, spirally fluted iron ramrod-pipes (one replaced), iron fore-end cap, and iron-tipped ramrod (the metal with surface pitting throughout), probably French
