Lot Essay

The Djinn series by Mourgue has come to represent the quintessence of 'pop' furniture design, after being featured in Stanley Kubrick's seminal 2001 - A Space Odyssey. During the 1960s, the emerging popular interest in Eastern mysticism influenced the decorative arts in both Europe and America. This is reflected in the series title which evokes a spirit from Islamic mythology, capable of assuming both human and animal form.
