'Minto Village' lies about 1¼ miles north of Denholm and 1/2 mile south of Minto Horse. To the east of Minto Hills lie the 'Craigs', which now seem to be called the Minto Crags which are a large mass of trap rock that rise up to a height of 729 ft. It is possible that the watercolour titled 'Scaur at Wells' refers to a place called Wells which is located at the foot of the Minto Crags. 'Minto Wells from Spittalford' may refer to a hamlet that is now called Spittal-on-Rule, located at the junction of the River Teriot and Rule
