Rinjo was an artist of the Genbei line and the third son of Kyujo. He became an independent artist and founded the Hanzaemon line. The title was then passed from Rinjo to Hojo, Bunjo, Kijo, Benjo and Mitsumasa. Mitsumasa was a nephew of Goto Ichijo and played a significant part in the family's success.
