a work of wisdom written in AH 1032/1622 AD using a series of anecdotes arranged in 20 chapters, Persian manuscript on buff, pink, orange and yellow gold-sprinkled paper, 51ff. plus three flyleaves, each with lines of elegant shikasteh written horizontally and diagonally between black outlined gold rules, occasional words in red, (very occasional smudging and staining, pages trimmed, some folios loose from binding), opening folio finely illuminated in gold and polychrome, the lines of text between gold clouds, with three miniatures painted in polychrome gouache and heightened with gold (negligible wear), maroon lacquer binding with gul-i-bulbul painted in gold within polychrome meandering flowering vine border (very minor chipping to outside edge), black lacquer doublures painted in gold with scrolling vine in similar border (opening one with polychrome transfer of cherubim and flower above and below)

Lot Essay

The miniatures are on the following folios: 10v. - a woman being persuaded not to kill her child by the Qur'an, 16r. - a party of visiting dignitaries being received at court and 20r. - a man having his hand flogged while ladies watch from a balcony.
