FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN with twist sighted barrels (originally browned, slightly pitted at the muzzles), patent breeches each with gold-lined maker's stamp, gold line and vent, engraved tang, signed border engraved serial numbered locks with 'French' cocks, rainproof pans and rollers (one steel-spring damaged), each engraved with a hound on the tail, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, and cheek-piece, steel mounts including scrolled trigger-guard with pineapple finial, retaining traces of original blueing and engraved with two hounds and a game bird in a landscape, butt-plate engraved on the heel with game birds, and gold escutcheon engraved with owner's crest (ramrod missing): in associated lined and fitted mahogany case (lock damaged, keyhole escutcheon missing) with some accessories including Sykes leather shot-flask and pigskin-covered powder-flask, the lid with John Manton & Son trade label and flush-fitting carrying handle, by John Manton, London, London proof marks, No. 5040 for 1808
