A PAIR OF PARIS GOLD-GROUND CHINOISERIE VASES of faceted campana shape, the handles with satyr's mask terminals, the green and white striped bodies painted with figures of Orientals standing in landscapes within gilt oval medallions outlined with foliage-scrolls and key pattern, alternating with phoenix and flowers, the stems with similar decoration, the swelling lower bodies moulded in high relief with oval bosses painted and gilt to imitate jewels on a broad black band, beneath black and gilt rims, on fixed square pedestals painted with Orientals standing in shrubby landscapes, the burnished gilt grounds chased with foliage-scrolls and phoenix (very slight flaking to gilding), circa 1840
