Lot Essay

Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) made two casts in bronze of the Goddess Diana. The first was commissioned by Giradot de Marigny in 1782 and is now in the Huntington Collection, San Marino, California. The second is dated 1790 and is now in the Louvre. A Version in Terracotta, executed Circa 1778 is in the Frick Collection, New York.
