An ovoid vase painted and heavily gilt with a broad band of birds amongst peonies and chrysanthemums attached to canes issuing from behind brushwood fences, the shoulder with a narrow band of ho-o among cloud scrolls, all between formal borders of floral lappets (minor gilt rubbing) -- 14½in. high, signed Dai Nihon Satsuma yaki Baika ga, below a blue enamel Satsuma mon.
