A Danish gilt-metal small striking table clock
Steffen Brenner. Dated 1563
The case on later brass feet supporting the moulded base engraved with foliage beneath the main body elaborately engraved on the side panels with Jupiter and Mars, the reverse engraved with a saintly figure, the dial dated *1*5*6*3 *S* (Copenhagen town stamp) *B, the dial with outer Roman I to XII and inner Arabic 13 to 24 chapters, later hand, the largely re-built movement utilising the original slender steel columns, the steel frame extending beneath the base plate and enclosing the two spring barrels, the going train with later fusee and wheel train with platform escapement, the strike train with later barrel but original fusee countwheel strike on the bell housed above
