A Continental gilt-metal small striking table clock
Possibly German. Basically second quarter 17th Century and with later elements
The case on brass bun feet supporting the moulded square gilt-metal base, the detachable side panels (one later) engraved with allegorical panels representing Love and Travel, the main dial with foliate engraved dial plate and later applied chapter ring with foliate pierced centre and later hand, the rear dial with later chapter discs displaying the hours, the movement with four square section gilt pillars and now re-trained, the going train with verge escapement and front-swinging pendulum (pendulum lacking), strike train similarly with the going barrel and strike on a bell above housed within the associated pierced dome; with alterations and additions
