A 19th-Century Russian brass equinoctial compass sundial,
unsinged, the hour ring graduated around the inside in Roman numerals, with folding gnomon, the latitude arc pierced at 5° intervals to clip to the hour ring, with a retaining band, the horizontal plate with folding scroll-decorated plummet support with plummet, the glazed compass box with steel needle, wind rose and graduated 20° either side of North (one screw detaching compass box from plate), the underside of the horizontal plate showing the latitudes of ten cities in cyrillic script, with four adjustable screw feet with turned finials -- 3 7/8in. (9.9cm.) square
