A LOUIS XV PARCEL-GILT AND SILVER MOUNTED TORTOISESHELL BOÎTE-À-FARD
with the discharge mark of Eloy Brichard 1756-1762
Rectangular nécessaire, the dark tortoiseshell panels on cover, sides and base inlaid with parcel-gilt silver reserves chased with rustic figures, fruit and flowers, within reeded or waved silver mounts, wavy thumbpiece, the inside of the lid fitted with a mirror, the inside of the base divided in three narrow vertical compartments with hinged covers decorated as the exterior, the lid of the void central compartment with thumbpiece, the left and right hand compartments opening by pressure on secret buttons hidden in the sides of the mounts, each containing two cut glass scent bottles with stoppers and gold caps resting on springs within the purple velvet lined compartments
