Circular black tortoiseshell box, the independent convex cover, sides and convex base inlaid with gold piqué posé stripes with engraved laurel bands at intervals, the gold mounts stamped with a ribbon-twist border, the interior of the cover inset with an oval glazed miniature of a gentleman in silver-bordered maroon jacket, lace cravat, powdered wig en queue, gold-lined interior
