A pair of Shibayama tusk vases
19th century
inlaid in mother-of-pearl, coral and stained ivory with birds and butterflies in flight and perched in blossoming branches above sprays of peonies, wild flowers and rockwork, the reverses with a hawk on a perch before a basket of peonies suspended from a blossoming tree and a vase of hydrangea on a rootwood stand in a flowering garden, attached to pierced wood stands -- 13 1/8in. (33.5cms) high, (some losses).
