This watch belonged to Frank Green (1861-1954) a wealthy Yorkshire gentleman who bought and restored Treasurer's House in York from 1897 to 1914. The grandson of an industrialist from Wakefield, Green used his fortune to rescue and restore Treasurer's House to what he thought was its original appearance. He furnished the house with his collection of furniture and antiques and gave the house and contents to the National Trust in 1930. The first house to be aquired by the Trust complete with its contents. Frank Green could afford to indulge expensive tastes and was noted for his sartorial elegance, one can quite imagine how this watch appealed to his exacting eye.

Thence by descent to the present owner.

The design, finish and serial number of the movement of this watch shows that it was undoubtedly made by Audemars Piguet for Gubelin. From around 1900, Audemars Piguet began to put their own signatures on their movements and dials. However, watches ordered by very special customers such as Gubelin, Cartier, Golay and Tiffany continued to be signed with the name of the customer.

Although this watch does not have a year indication it is a perpetual calendar. The date dial compensates for the varying number of days per month and is self-correcting for the leap years.
