AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED LOUTROPHOROUS (TYPE III=BARREL AMPHORA)
Attributed to the White Saccos Painter, Circa 320-310 B.C.
One side with a crowned woman in added white seated on a throne within an Ionic naiskos, her feet on a foot-rest, wearing a chiton and a mantle around her shoulders and pulled up as a veil, with two attendants, also in added white, one to the left holding a fan, the other with her right hand resting on the back of the throne, her left on a large lekythos, eight offering bearers surrounding the naiskos, a facing medusa head amidst scrolling in the pediment of the naiskos, the shoulder with a female head in added white wearing a yellow Phrygian cap, amidst scrolling tendrils; the other side with a woman seated on an Ionic capital within a naiskos, wearing a chiton and mantle, holding a cista, a fillet and a wreath, a running female attendant below, the shoulder with palmettes; with a band of laurel centered by rosettes above the scenes, a band of rosettes below the scenes, bands of rays, dotted ovolo and palmettes on the neck, wave on the rim, rays on the underside of the rim and above the foot
