Introduced in 1907 the Folding Ruby was produced in quarter-plate and 5 x 4 inch models. The camera followed the standard pattern of hand camera with a double rising front and was offered with a Panoptic shutter and Pantoplast lens. Thornton-Pickard's advertisements stated: 'Fitted with every possible practical movment. Great range of reserve adjustments. Every movement possesses the greatest latitude'. The camera sold for £6 10s for the quarter-plate model and £7 10s for the 5 x 4 inch model. The camera under went a series of improvements over following years.
