A Victorian Welsh mahogany longcase clock, mid 19th century
The wide-bodied case with foliate mouldings to the hood cresting, outset spiral-twist columns flanking conforming pilasters on the door, Bible back mouldings below the throat, the short trunk door with recessed oval panel, conforming panel below, flanked by further spiral-twist columns, the plinth with recessed circular panel, lacking feet, the 13½in. wide painted Roman dial with spandrels painted as castles and lighthouses, subsidiary seconds ring and arched date aperture, rubbed signature John Jones/High ST/PWLLHELLI, brass hands, with rocking ship to the arch, falseplate to the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 88½in. (225cm.) high
