A PAIR OF LOUIS XV ORMOLU-MOUNTED FRANKENTHAL MODELS OF LEAPING DEER
The porcelain circa 1770-1775, modelled probably by Karl Gottlieb Luck, marks obscured, the ormolu mounts 18th century
Each with iron-red and brown coat, white chest , black eyes, nose and hooves, modelled leaping over a reed support across a brown and green mottled rectangular mound base applied with further reeds and 'moss', one applied with florettes, the other with mushrooms, the rectangular ormolu base with 'melon' foot at each corner (restorations)

Lot Essay

A related example of a leaping stag with the crowned CT monogram mark for Carl Theordor is illustrated in F.H. Hofmann, Frankenthaler Porzellan, vol.1, pl.11, no.56.

A mantel clock with a Strasbourg or Frankethal porcelain group of a wild boar, standing on a closely related plinth with gourd feet is in the Fondation Ephrussi Rothschild, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and is illustrated in J.-D. Augarde, Les Ouvriers du Temps, Geneva, 1996, p.181, fig. 145.
