A RARE FAN-SHAPED CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The flattened top surface of the fan-shaped box deeply carved with an idyllic lakeside scene of scholars gathered around a low table writing calligraphy and drinking tea served by an attendant, with two further attendants transporting food across a low bridge, surrounded by pine trees, plantain and craggy rocks, with a key-fret band around the edge, the sides of box and cover with a dense floral-cell pattern, the base and interiors lacquered black (rim and corners repaired)
