A FINE FRENCH SMALL-SWORD WITH CHISELLED STEEL HILT
Circa 1760
With tapering blade of hollow triangular section etched, blued and gilt on each side of the forte with rococo sprays and the signature 'Bourdin Gendre & Successeur Du sieur Giverne md. fourbisseur De la Maison Du Roy Pont St. michel à la Tete d'or à Paris De la Marque Des Mouchettes à Sohlingen', with crowned crossed keys, the hilt decorated in relief with rococo ornament framing martial and musical trophies against a gilt fish-roe ground, the grip with its original binding of silver ribbon and plaited silver wire, in original vellum-covered scabbard with chiselled and gilt mounts and two carrying-rings (frog-hook removed, chape missing)
