A SCOTTISH MILITARY BACKSWORD WITH THREE-QUARTER BASKET
Late 18th Century
With single-edged fullered blade double-edged towards the point, the iron hilt comprising guard of characteristic Highland Scots form, but with a quarter of the inner side omitted, constructed of rounded vertical bars enclosing panels pierced with triangles and circles, domed pommel with button, wooden sharkskin-covered grip (wire binding missing) and leather liner, in original leather-covered wooden scabbard (damaged) with iron locket and chape, the pommel and locket (frog-hook missing) incised with the number '25'
