An early 19th-Century lacquered-brass 2-inch telescope,
signed on the backplate DOLLOND LONDON, mounted on a tripod table stand, with the orginal fitted mahogany carrying case -- 76.5cm. (30 1/8in.) wide

The 72.4cm. (28½in.) long body tube has an objective lens dustcap and rack and pinion focusing to the eyepiece extension tube. It is mounted via a compass to the tapering brass column with folding, inswept tripod feet. The carrying case contains one clear and one smoked glass eyepiece and an engraved sheet (in three sections) showing a diagram of the telescope and description of its use in English and French. The case has two brass hooks and eyes and a label for G. DOLLOND, Optical, Mathematical and Philsophical Instrument Maker, TO HIS MAJESTY 59 St Pauls Church Yard London.
