A GERMAN DIRK, AND TWO NAVAL SWORDS
Late 19th early 20th Century
The first with straight twin-fullered counterfeit-damascened blade, gilt for approximately half its length and bearing copious etched decoration, one side inscribed 'C Ritter', the other side dated 1873, and cast copper (originally gilt) one-piece hilt with chased decoration to grip and crosspiece, in its black leather scabbard with plain copper chape and locket, the latter fitted with a long hook and now with applied silver anchor; the second an officer's sword of the Chilean Navy, with narrow fullered blade etched with foliate decoration and an anchor beneath a mullet, gilt-brass 'gothic' guard with hinged flap, bearing a similar device in the cartouche, wire-bound shagreen grip, distinctive condor's head pommel, and black leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts, the locket fitted with a securing stud; the third with earlier curved multiple-fullered blade (probably shortened), the ricasso stamped 'Eisenhauer' and 'C Putsch Sohn Solingen', the forte etched with figures and inscriptions 'In Deo Spes mea', 'Fide re Cui vide 1675', 'Vincere aut. mo. Hungario' and 'Pro Fide et Patri', and leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts, the locket bearing a device as in the cartouche on the guard and incorporating an additional ring on its inner face (securing-stud now removed)
