A RARE ENGLISH SILVER-HILTED SMALL-SWORD
Last quarter of the 17th Century
With slender blade of flattened hexagonal section (some rust-staining and pitting) with deep central fuller on each face of the forte stamped 'Francisco Ruis En Toledo', the double-shell guard (distorted) finely pierced and chased with foliated scrollwork within a reeded frame decorated at intervals with foliated mouldings, fluted quillon-block, arms and pommel all incorporating acanthus calyxes, later plain knuckle-guard, and wooden grip bound with plaited and twisted silver wire (slight wear to hilt)
