Lot Essay

Saly's equestrian statue of Frederik V stands in front of the Amalienborg Palace (the official residence of the Danish Royal Family).

Saly (1717-1776) came to Denmark in 1753 and began work on the statue a year later. The preparatory work lasted 17 years, so the statue was finally unveiled on the Castle Square in 1771. The finished product, is considered one of the world's most outstanding equestrian monuments.
