A Short Sword (Wakizashi) Attributed to Osafune Naruie and Mounts (Koshirae)
Nambokucho period (14th century)
The blade configuration hira-zukuri with iori-mune back and koshi-zori curvature, the tip chu-gissaki; the forging pattern itame and the tempered edge kataochi gunome with a small rounded tip and no turnback; the blade carved with bo-hi extending through the tang; tang shortened with two peg holes; in wood storage scabbard
Koshirae comprising a red and black lacquer scabbard fitted with a kozuka, the handle decorated with the attributes of the Seven Household Gods and the blade signed Kinryuzan Fujiwara Kanetora; the hilt mounted with tiger menuki and shakudo, shibuichi and gilt fuchi-gashira with an owl and trees; oval shakudo nanako tsuba with a gilt dragon at the rim
