Enamelled at the centre with a lady reclining on a terrace being restrained by a gentleman, whilst a lady watches through a window, within gilt spearheads in the well and gilt shell-scroll at the border, underside rim chips

Lot Essay

This scene is taken from a fable by La Fontaine, La Servante Justifiée and is copied from an engraving by Larmessin after a painting by Nicolas Lancret. For an identical plate see Hervouët and Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidental, Paris, 1986, p. 198, fig.9.10 (colour plate). Another example from the J. Louis Binder collection was sold in these Rooms, 17 June 2003, lot 175.
