A Victorian engraved gilt-brass strut timepiece with calendar
Thomas Cole, London, No. 739; retailed by C.F. Hancock, London. Circa 1850
The rectangular case finely engraved with scrolling foliage on a hatched ground, Cole's serial number 739 punch-numbered on the base with swivel stand, the backplate with further easle stand and engraved C.F. Hancock. A successor of STORR & MORTIMER'S by appointment to H.M. Queen Adelaide HJM the Emporer of Russia 59 Bruton Street London, the foliate engraved silvered dial with Roman chapter, the centre engraved with the monogram (addorsed P) beneath a Baronet's coronet, retail signature above for C.F. HANCOCK LONDON, calendar below with manually adjustable days of the week, the eight-day movement with ratchet tooth lever escapement and plain steel balance, the interior case mouldings stamped THOs COLE LONDON
