A Queen Anne tortoiseshell lacquer longcase clock
The pine case decorated with gilt chinoiserie designs against a mock red tortoiseshell ground, the stepped flat top hood with gilt blind fret panel to the front cornice, glazed side panels and inset columns, the trunk door with moulded frame and brass-lined lenticle, on stepped plinth, the 11¾in. square brass dial with wheatear engraved borders and Indian mask spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and leaf half quarter hour markers, signed John Shaw Holborn, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding holes and bird and basket engraving around the square date aperture, steel hands, the eight day movement with five ringed pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; case with restorations, redecorated and associated to dial and movement, circa 1710 -- 82in. (208cm.) high
