Each oviform with upright burnished gilt loop handles reserved with laurel, the ribbed bodies enriched with gilt stripes, gilt anthemia beneath meandering ivy on the neck

Lot Essay

The ground colour of the present vases is paler and less purple in tone than that generally found on pieces with this sort of neoclassic decoration. It may be, instead, the colour referred to in the records as bleu pâle.
