Signed orikaeshi mei Sueyuki, Late Kamakura Period (14th Century)
Blade honzukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, forging pattern itame with mokume, chirimen with sumi hada and jinie, chikei, midare utsuri, narrow ko-midare of nie with sunagashi, yo, uchinoke, kinsuji, narrow ko-maru boshi on ura, ko-maru boshi with hakikake on omote, tang o-suriage, one hole, nagasa 54.8cm., sori 1cm., motohaba 2.2cm., sakihaba 2cm.

Lot Essay

The fine hada resembling 'chirimen', or silk crepe, indicates that this may be the work of the Ko-Aoe School, even though Ko-Aoe smiths usually signed with a tachi mei. There were at least two smiths of that school working in the Kamakura Period and signing Sueyuki, the earlier of whom is said to have been a pupil of Sadatsugu.
