Lot Essay

This smith studied under Suishinshi Masahide, the founder of the shinshinto tradition, and consequently made swords in old styles, specializing in both the Bizen style and work like this, in an adaptation of the Soshu style. He used the expression Sakuyo Bakka shi [a retainer of the ruling clan of Sakuyo] in his signature at the time he was employed by Lord Matsudaira of Mimasaka Province (d.1858 at the age of 75).
