Paris, 1777/1778, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1774-1780, maker's mark indistinct, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Slightly tapering rectangular etui-à-tablettes with slightly arched top, of oblong section, of orange-brown lacquer decorated overall with vertical gold stripes, within gold ribbon-twist borders, obverse and reverse of cover applied with inscription SOUVENIR within reeded and foliate borders, both sides of the base inset with oval fixé-sous-verre miniatures painted en grisaille on a slate blue ground with allegories of love and fidelity, within a ribbon-twist gold border a pair of doves above; gold-capped pencil and gold-riveted three-leaved tablets inside; with green shagreen case
