The hood with swan neck cresting, outset spiral-twist columns, dentil cornice mouldings, conforming pilasters with carved capitals flanking the short trunk door decorated with oak leaves and acorns and with an urn above, the 14in. wide white painted dial with gilt bats' wing spandrels to a Roman and Arabic chapter ring with dot minute track, with subsidiary seconds and date rings, polished steel hands, a vignette painted with a figure of Chronos, pinned directly to the eight day movement with four pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; probably Scottish -- 88in. (224cm.) high
