2 parts in one volume, chancery 4° (239 x 184mm). Roman type, white-on-black woodcut borders and initials, shoulder notes. (Without first blank of both parts, cropped with some loss to top of both borders, some spotting, a few short marginal wormtracks, a little light dampstaining.) Late 19th/early 20th-century citron calf strapwork binding by G. Hedberg, title in gilt on spine (lightly rubbed at extremities). Provenance: owner's note dated 1895 -- Alex Ax[ ]son Johnsons (bookplate).

FIRST COMPLETE EDITION and the first use of both woodcut border pieces. In Part I the lower part of c.1b and all of c.2a is left blank to correspond with a lacuna in the manuscript of Appian. H *1307; BMC V, 244; GW 2290; Essling 221; Regrave 3-4; Sander 482; Goff A-928.
