Chancery 4° (194 x 138mm). Roman type, initial spaces with printed guide-letters. (A few leaves reinforced at margin, a little spotting, some pencil marks.) 19th-century vellum, single gilt fillet and gilt crowned monogram on front board, spine gilt with leather lettering-piece, marbled endleaves. Provenance: gilt crowned monogram 'R' (front board).
FIRST AND ONLY INCUNABLE EDITION of Pausanias' work in which the author relates in ten books the history and topography of the cities of Greece, with further details on their religious practices. The dating of this edition of Attica Descriptio is based on its bird watermark, also found in De Luna's printing of Ficinus' De Christiana religione (Venice: 1500).
