A Chinese teak and brass mantel timepiece with alarm
Late 18th Century
The glazed circular brass dial with convex brass chapter ring engraved with Japanese chapters with central alarm disc and double-sided brass pointer, the twin fusee movement with four baluster pillars riveted to the dial plate and pinned at the backplate, chain fusee for the going train with verge escapement with large bridgecock planted on the backplate, the alarm train also with chain fusee and striking via two hammers on a large bell secured to the case back, the drum-shaped case cast with foliage and Chinese characters resting on a foliate carved teak stand with key slot in the base
