A Japanese shitan wood and brass small dai-dokei
Mid 19th Century
The brass clock case engraved overall with peonies and chrysanthemums, turned brass pillars to each angle, the dial plate with adjustable Japanese characters revolving against a stationery pierced blued steel hand, the transverse-mounted movement of typical form with going train having verge escapement and rear-swinging small bob pendulum, the strike train with countwheel planted on the backplate, the hammer carried on the vertical arbor striking on a bell above the plates, the shitan wood stand with sliding front and rear glazed doors on cabriole legs joined with stretches at the base
