Lot Essay

The present work's tight, compact composition creates a bright sound when brushed or touched. Bertoia's sounds are mysterious and evocative, causing the viewer -the participant- to project their own emotions and memories onto the piece. The severe formality of the composition belies an intensely spontaneous and visceral experience.
