JACKSON, Andrew (1767-1845), President. Autograph endorsement signed ("Andrew Jackson"), n.d., on verso of 10 January 1813 receipt. 2 pages, 8vo, tape repair along crease.
JACKSON IN HIS INDIAN FIGHTING DAYS. A newly promoted Major General Jackson endorses the verso of this document as follows: "Wm. B. Lewis Assistant Deputy quarter master will pay the within account." On the recto, a Sergeant John Lewis wrote out a short invoice for his expenses in connection with chasing down an AWOL soldier. Jackson earned his promotion to Major General because of his exploits during the War of 1812, battling the Creek Indians in the southeast.
