An attractive check fully accomplished in the hand of the future President Jefferson. He had begun to find himself increasingly at odds with Washington, due to the ascendant influence of Alexander Hamilton, and eventually resigned from the post of Secretary of State in the Cabinet, but remained very active behind the scenes in the struggle between Federalists and anti-Federalists. Here, he directs payment of [$18.00] to one James Ker. Examples of Jefferson's checks are increasingly scarce.
