the case of typical form with gabled roof surmounted by a stag head trophy with inset glass eyes and crossed rifles below, with two doors to the arch, one revealing a polychrome painted seated youth and the other a cuckoo, the case flanked by carved models of a hanging hare and a pheasant, the bezel modelled as an Alpen horn, with hunter's pouch hanging from it and issuing oak leaves forming the apron, the dial with ebonised chapter ring and individual white enamel Roman cartouche numerals, turned centre and pierced bone hands, the metal frame movement with twin bellows to one side and 3in.(7.5cm.) pin barrel musical movement to the other, with strike on gong to the back door, with two pinecone weights and pierced wood pendulum centred by an oak leaf, German, 19th century -- 47½in.(121cm.) high
