A 19th-Century lacquered-brass microscope compendium,
unsigned, including a Jones-type compound monocular microscope, the barrel threading into a short limb atop the graduated square-section pillar with rack and pinion-adjusted eared stage, plano-concave mirror and folding tripod foot (retaining screw broken), and a large solar-type microscope comprising a 2¼in. lens adjusted by rack and pinion from the barrel with two [?]mounting arms and interior sprung stage, sliding brass plate to reduce the aperture and threaded eyepiece mount, together with five numbered objectives for the compound microscope and three which fit neither, livebox, Bonanni sprung stage, black and white disc, brass four-cell slider in sleeve, turned ivory talc and ring box with a threaded cap at either end, seventeen numbered four-cell ivory sliders (the highest being no.44) and fifteen numbered fruitwood trough sliders, each with four specimens, in a fitted mahogany case with two brass hooks and eyes (one hook broken, some fittings loose but retained, the lid cracked and separated) -- 35.3cm.
