The covers each carved around the circular finial in shallow relief with a band of lotus petals above a continuous lotus scroll interspersed with four of the Buddhist Emblems, the boxes similarly decorated above the foot with lotus petals, scroll and the other four emblems, the stone of deep green tone variegated with darker and opaque inclusions, one box and cover with minor rim chips

The finial of the covers were probably originally inset with white jade plaques, as shown on the examples in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated by Li Jiufang in Zhong guo yu qi quan ji, vol.6, Hebei, 1991, nos. 101 and 104.
