Modelled by Adam Bauer, wearing a gilt-edged white bodice and flowered skirt, seated on a rock with a basket of fruit, a bunch of grapes in her hand and a recumbent goat at her side, a hat filled with apples partially wrapped in an apron at her feet, on a grassy rocky mound base edged with gilt scrolls (boy lacking from right side of group, her nose, left arm, right hand, basket, goat's horns, foreleg and ear restored, chipping to her right cuff, foliage and apples, very slight over-painting to flaking of black enamel on hat)

Lot Essay

See F.H. Hofmann, op. cit. (Munich, 1911), Vol II, no. 538 for an example of this Kinder mit Früchten group complete with the boy. Bauer was the Court sculptor to the Duke of Wurtemberg, and worked briefly at Ludwigsburg before becoming the Modellmeister at Frankenthal between 1777 and 1779.
