The circular glazed enamelled dial with Roman and Arabic chapters inscribed 'Cronier A PARIS', the stiff-leaf bezel in a reeded drum on a fluted pilaster surrounded by clouds and flanked by a lady holding a map of France and a putto, on a bow-fronted rectangular base with pierced red fabric-backed foliate panels with laurel swags, on fluted feet

Lyric poetry is celebrated by celestial Venus guiding Cupid, while the map of France is displayed on a laurelled altar-pedestal, whose mosaic-fretted trellis recalls the dome of Rome's Temple of Venus.
