A RARE RUSSIAN (TULA) SMALL-SWORD WITH CHISELLED IRON HILT ENCRUSTED IN SILVER AND IN THREE COLOURS OF GOLD

With slender short blade etched and gilt on both sides at the forte (patches of pitting), iron hilt chiselled throughout with small pierced designs of scrollwork and expanded flower-heads, the latter alternately picked-out in gold and formed as gold-encrusted medallions, incorporating pendant trophies-of-arms finely encrusted in gold on the pommel and on both faces of the double shell, each within a silver guilloche enclosure, and the shell-guard and pommel framed by an elaborate running bead pattern also in gold and silver (the pommel and knuckle-guard each with small patches of pitting, the grip binding loose).
